Today the Oregon Senate voted 21-6 to pass House Bill 2005 (2 excused, 1 absent), which will establish Oregon’s first statewide paid family and medical leave insurance program. As a steering committee member of the Time to Care Oregon coalition, NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon, helped lead this historic victory for Oregon families, even as H.B. 2005 was among the 100 bills held up by the 7-day Senate Republican walk-out.

NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon Board Member Julia Goodman, PhD, MPH presented the results of a recent mixed-methods evaluation of Multnomah County’s two-year-old paid parental leave policy to Multnomah County Commissioners. Findings show how family-friendly policies are not only good for employee morale, but improve an employers’ ability to recruit and retain talent.
