Oregon Foundation for Reproductive Health Changes Name to NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation
Change Reflects Need to Protect Basic Reproductive Health Rights
PORTLAND, OR [2/9/18] – In a move to reflect its longtime partnership with NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon, the state’s longtime leader in reproductive rights advocacy, the Oregon Foundation for Reproductive Health has changed its name to the NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation.
“NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon and the NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation will now work together even more closely to protect and advance the most progressive reproductive health policies in the nation and organize the next generation of pro-choice champions,” said Grayson Dempsey, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon and NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation. “We’re excited to align the work of our organizations to reflect the full range of our reproductive health care advocacy efforts, which is essential to both our missions.”
“Our work has always been focused on making sure people have the power and resources to make their own decisions about their reproductive health, without fear of discrimination, exclusion or harm,” says Kelly Coates, president of the NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation board of directors. “We break down barriers to health care so that all people have the opportunity to thrive. This name change allows us to align and maximize our impact.”
The name change was announced as part of the public rollout of both organizations’ five year strategic plans, developed over six months with input from more than 75 board members, staff, supporters and key allies. The plans recognize the unprecedented political times and the unique opportunity the state has to be a nationwide leader in reproductive health policymaking and to promote models of equitable health care access. While NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon is a member-based organization that lobbies for legislation that protects and expands reproductive rights, the Foundation will focus on implementation and evaluation of cutting edge reproductive health initiatives as well as grassroots mobilization of its supporters and development of young pro-choice leaders.
NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon and the NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2017 and are well positioned to meet the unique challenges and opportunities that will define the next 40 years of the organizations’ work. Information about the NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation’s programs, as well as the new strategic plan, can be found online at prochoiceoregon.org/foundation.
NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon develops and sustains a constituency that uses the political process to guarantee every person who can become pregnant the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion.
NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation supports and protects, as a fundamental right and value, a person’s freedom to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices – including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion – through education, training, organizing, and research. We champion public policy that addresses disparities in reproductive health care and promotes health equity for all people.
